Integrating Emergency Services Planning into Aged Care

Dave Owens and Rob Critchlow have contributed to the April 2024 edition of the Australian Journal of Emergency Management, highlighting the significant reforms in the aged care sector, set to take effect from 1 July 2024.

With new risk-based standards and legislative enhancements, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is consulting on draft guidance to help providers, workers, and stakeholders comply with the updated Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and Aged Care Act 1997.

These reforms aim to improve care quality and safety for older Australians, requiring aged care providers to develop comprehensive emergency and disaster plans and engage with emergency services organisations proactively.
